Amazon Dragons
Portland, OR

The Amazon Dragons were founded in Portland, Oregon in 1992 as part of the Lesbian Community Project to give a face to lesbians living in the local community. During that time gay and lesbian awareness and acceptance was not what it is today. Celebrating our 25th anniversary, the Amazons have welcomed all women 16 years and older to join and compete in the international sport of dragon boat racing.

The Unsinkables
Salem, OR

The Unsinkables are Salem's first Cancer Survivor's Dragon Boat team, now paddling in their 3rd season with the World Beat Dragon Boat Club. Our team began as an idea and commitment at the 2014 Portland Dragon Boat Festival by a club member who had gained the love of dragon boating as a member of the Angry Unicorns and Highland Dragons. As a general member of the club, she decided to go for it and plant the seed in Salem, in September, not knowing her own diagnosis would come in early November! Once done with all surgeries and treatment, the networking began in earnest with the small group of seven paddlers joining another team's practice until there were enough paddlers to be safe. The team gathered paddlers from Salem to Canada, which included our sister team, Angry Unicorns, and many wonderful Pink Phoenix women, and raced in World Beat after just 2 months of practice. Last year, we had three races and gradually filled our boat. We now have 24 members and have four races on our race schedule. Several of our paddlers now "help out" by paddling with other clubs in races throughout the summer. Paddles Up!
